Published by the Australian Educational Researcher (AER), Ngarrngga Director Professor Melitta Hogarth examines the gap between the policy intentions of the including Indigenous Knowledges and content with the curriculum and the practical implementation in a new paper. ‘Ngarrngga: an approach to Indigenous education for all Australians’ highlights Ngarrngga as a potential model to address the gap, while arguing that a systemic approach and collaboration across organisations and programs is required.
“…Ngarrngga sets forth a compelling framework for educational reform, challenging stakeholders to reimagine the potential of an education system that fully embraces and leverages the rich tapestry of Australia’s cultural and intellectual heritage.”
Within the Paper, Professor Hogarth also examines the current challenges facing Australian education, including the teacher shortage crisis and the reliance on educational resources to address workload stress, as well as looking at the global context, in particular outlining the importance of culturally responsive and inclusive educational practices referred to in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
